Many times a problem or a difficulty serves as the spark for innovation. Grant West is turning an inconvenience into an opportunity with his project.

Grant is on the MBHS cross-country team. This means that he must wake up early to arrive for practice- which is a testament to his dedication. However, Grant discovered that inclement weather meant no practice. On a typical day he would be awakened by his alarm at 6:30am, but on those bad weather days, it was only to learn that practice had been called off.

Grant applied his ingenuity and came up with the idea of creating an intelligent alarm that would allow him to sleep in on those days when the weather was bad. His Second semester project is to use Java Server Pages and Servlets to create his student alarm. It is clear that other students would benefit from his application and he may find that his project earns him a bit of cash!
